Garden City Drywall Repair, Documented for Your Claim

We repair water-stained ceilings, cracked seams, holes and soft wallboard, then hang, tape and finish new drywall to match what is already there. Every job starts with photos and moisture readings you can share with your insurer. We work in Garden City, Mineola, Garden City Park and nearby towns.

How We Work in Your Home

A good repair and a clean paper trail come from the same habit: looking carefully before touching anything. Here is what that looks like on a job.

We record the damage first

Before a single cut, we photograph each affected wall and ceiling, measure the stained or soft area and take moisture meter readings. You keep those photos and numbers. If you go through insurance, they show the condition we found, not just the finished repair.

Estimates broken into line items

Our written estimate lists square footage of board removed and replaced, board type, tape and compound coats, texture and primer. Adjusters compare estimates line by line, so an itemized one is easier for them to review than a single total.

We explain the claim, we don't run it

We can tell you what an adjuster usually wants to see and how drywall work is typically described in an insurance file. Coverage decisions belong to your insurer and your adjuster. We will not tell you something is covered, and we will not inflate scope to fit a policy.

Wet board comes out, not over

Gypsum that stays wet loses strength and can grow mold on the paper facing. If readings stay high, we cut back to dry material instead of skimming over a stain. Covering wet drywall is how the same stain shows up again a season later.

Finish matched to the room

We match the existing texture, whether that is smooth, orange peel, knockdown or an older hand-troweled plaster look. Seams get the right compound for the job, and we check the repair under a work light before primer goes on.

The Wall and Ceiling Work We Do

Drywall repair and drywall patching make up most of our calls, from a hole left by a doorknob to an opening cut to get at a leak or a corner bead dented by a couch. Bigger sections get drywall hanging and drywall finishing, and water-damaged ceilings get ceiling repair. Surface preparation and sanding determine whether a repair blends in, and a paint touch-up over the fixed spot means you are not stuck with a square of bare primer.

  • Drywall Repair

Water-damaged, cracked or broken drywall cut back to sound material, rebuilt and finished, with the damage photographed and measured first.

  • Drywall Patching

Doorknob holes, anchor damage and inspection cut-outs patched with backing, setting compound and matched texture so the spot stops drawing the eye.

  • Drywall Hanging

New drywall for renovations, finished basements and walls opened after water damage, hung with the right board and fastening so the finish coat goes on flat.

  • Drywall Finishing

Taping, mudding, corner bead, sanding and skim coats that bring new or repaired drywall to a flat, paint-ready surface with no visible seams.

  • Wall Repair

Cracks, stains, holes and failed corners in plaster or drywall walls, traced to the cause, repaired and documented in case you file a claim.

  • Ceiling Repair

We cut out wet or sagging ceiling drywall, replace it, re-tape the seams and match the texture so the repair disappears overhead.

  • Surface Preparation and Sanding

We fill, skim, sand and prime damaged or uneven drywall so walls and ceilings come out flat, smooth and ready for a finish coat.

  • Paint Touch-Ups

Matched color and sheen over fresh patches, nail pops and scuffs, applied so the repaired spot stops showing on the wall or ceiling.

  • Paint-Ready Walls

Repaired, sanded and primed drywall with blended paint touch-ups, so a damaged wall is flat, sealed and ready for its finish coat.

About Drywall Repair Garden City

We are a drywall company and that is what we spend our days on: cutting out damage, hanging board, taping seams and getting a finish that does not show under raking light. Homeowners, landlords and property managers call us when a wall or ceiling has been opened up and needs to look like nothing happened.

A lot of that damage comes from water, and water damage often comes with an insurance claim. We started documenting every job carefully because customers kept asking for photos and measurements their adjuster could use. Now it is simply how we work on every job, insured or not. We describe what we see, write it down plainly, and leave the coverage questions to the people who decide them.

What Sets the Price of Drywall Work

Repair prices vary because the damage you can see is seldom all of it. Here is what we weigh when we put your estimate together.

We write your itemized estimate once we have seen the damage in person. Sometimes an opened wall reveals more, such as wet insulation or a cracked stud. If that happens, we pause, show you photos and update the numbers before going any further.

How much area and how many spots
A fist-sized patch is a quick visit. Multiple rooms, or a ceiling section several feet wide, takes more board, more tape and more drying time between coats.
What sits behind the wall
Soaked insulation, damaged framing or old plaster and lath behind the surface all change the job. Plenty of older local homes still have plaster in some rooms, and joining new drywall to plaster takes extra shimming and blending.
Kind of board
Standard half-inch, five-eighths Type X and moisture-resistant bathroom board each cost and hang differently. We match what was there unless another board suits the spot better.
Height and how easy it is to reach
Ceilings call for staging and two people to hold full sheets up. Stairwells, cathedral ceilings and furnished rooms take longer to set up.
Texture and level of finish
A smooth wall that catches window light needs more skim coats and sanding than the inside of a closet. Matching knockdown or orange peel means test passes before the actual coat goes on.

The Order We Work In

Joint compound needs to dry between coats, so a typical patch takes more than one trip. This is how a job usually goes.

  1. 1

    Call and site visit

Tell us what was damaged and where. We book a time to see it, and when a claim is open we write down your adjuster's information so our records match theirs.

  2. 2

    Inspect and record

We take photos, measurements and moisture readings and lay out where we will cut. The right trade has to fix the leak or other cause first, before anything gets closed in.

  3. 3

    Cover, cut out and hang

We cover floors and furniture and put up dust barriers when the room needs them. The damaged board is removed back to the closest framing, then new drywall is screwed in place and taped.

  4. 4

    Mud, sand and texture

Joints get a fill coat and then finish coats, each one spread wider than the one before. Once sanded, the repair gets texture to match the area around it and a spot coat of primer.

  5. 5

    Paint and clean up

We touch up the paint over the repair, vacuum the dust, haul away debris and send you after photos to pair with the ones we took at the start.

Common Questions

Can you help with an insurance claim for drywall damaged by water?

We record the damage with photos, measurements and moisture readings and hand you an itemized estimate for your adjuster to review. We can also walk you through how drywall work is usually laid out for an adjuster. We are not an adjuster or a public adjuster, so we can't say what your policy covers or negotiate for you.

Do I need to wait for the adjuster before work begins?

In most cases, yes. Insurers generally want to see the damage, or good photos of it, before anything is torn out. We can visit first to record it and take readings, and come back for the repair once your adjuster is satisfied. If the wet material raises safety or mold worries, check with your insurer on how to handle it.

Will I see the patch once it is painted?

From a normal distance, a properly finished patch should not be visible. Patches usually show because the compound edges weren't spread wide enough, the texture doesn't match, or no primer went over the new mud and the paint dried with a different sheen. We take care of each of those before the paint touch-up.

How long will my drywall repair take?

A small patch usually means two or three short visits, because each coat of mud has to dry before the next goes on. On some jobs setting-type compound shortens that. Bigger ceiling repairs or full new sheets can run several days, mostly waiting on drying, and your estimate comes with a schedule.

Will the texture on my walls or ceiling match?

Yes. We match smooth surfaces, orange peel, knockdown and older hand-applied textures. We try it first on a scrap piece or a hidden spot and adjust how thick the compound is and how hard we press the tool until it looks like the rest of the surface.

Will the work be dusty?

Cutting and sanding drywall creates fine dust, so we cover the floors and furniture, seal off the room when possible and sand carefully. Before we go, we vacuum the work area and take the debris with us.

Do landlords and property managers hire you for rental units?

Yes. We can arrange access with tenants, send you photos of the damage and the completed repair, and give you an itemized estimate for your files or your insurer.
